Symposium title: multivariate pattern analysis in human brain mapping

:Symposium abstract

Multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) has attracted a mounting interest in human brain mapping. It allows the detection of subtle but widespread differences in brain activations between experimental conditions, which might be overlooked when using traditional univariate analyses. This symposium focuses on how MVPA can be adopted to study a wide range of cognitive processes including semantic category processing, visual perception, cognitive control and attention. To emphasize the flexibility of pattern analysis techniques, we will present several applications of the method; time-resolved (MEG/EEG), voxel-based (fMRI), multimodal (fMRI-MEG fusion), and concurrent neurostimulation-neuroimaging (TMS-fMRI). This symposium is most relevant for those keen to adopt machine-learning approaches for studying human cognition.
