Dr. Gonzalo Alarcon

Dr. Gonzalo Alarcon

• Affiliation: Reader and Honorary Consultant, King's College London, London, England • Fields: Clinical neurophysiology, Epileptology, Epilepcy, Intra-Operative Electrocorticography, Clinical Neuroscience, EEG • Bio: Dr Gonzalo Alarcon was born in Madrid where he graduated in Medicine with distinction (“Premio Extraordinario”) in 1984 and obtained a PhD from the university of the Complutense. In 1987, he received a Fleming Award for his research on spinal processing of pain in the Department of Physiology of the University of Bristol (UK). His clinical practice is mainly focused on electroencephalography, presurgical assessment of Epilepcy, telemetry, intracranial recordings, and intra-operative electrocorticography which has led to the basis for research on several aspects of epileptology with a particular interest in presurgical assessment of Epilepcy and the mechanisms involved in the generation and propagation of human epileptic discharges and seizures. Two of the research techniques, single pulse electrical stimulation, and discharge latency analysis, have translated into clinically useful tests. In 1994, he was awarded the Gowers Prize by the International League Against Epilepcy. He currently runs the MSc Course in Epilepcy and is the lead editor of the Epilepcy volume of the Oxford Specialist Handbooks in Neurology (2009) and President of the Spanish League Against Epilepcy.

• Affiliation: Psychology and Language Sciences (PPLS), School of Philosophy, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, England • Fields: Impact of language learning and bilingualism or multilingualism Interaction between multilingualism, Cognitive ageing/cognitive reserve and brain disease (dementia, aphasia) • Bio: Thomas Bak joined the cognitive neurology research group at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in Cambridge in 1995. His research field is focused on the interaction between motor and cognitive functions. In 1996 Dr Bak established a clinic for the disorders of movement and cognition in Cambridge. Since 2006 he has been working in the Department of Psychology, the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, and the Centre for Cognitive Aging and Cognitive Epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh. After that, in 2008 he established the Edinburgh Interdisciplinary Seminars in Philosophy, Psychology, and Language Sciences. Also, Dr Bak was the president of the World Federation of Neurology Research Group on Aphasia, Dementia, and Cognitive Disorders between 2010–2016. Within this group, He established the “Cognitive Clinics Worldwide” Initiative and has been organizing teaching courses in cognitive neurology in India, China, Mongolia, and South America.
Prof. Payam Barnaghi

Prof. Payam Barnaghi

• Affiliation: Faculty of Medicine, Department of Brain Sciences, Imperial College London, London, England. • Fields: Developing artificial intelligence, machine learning solutions for health care, creating cost-effective and scalable digital systems for a wide range of health conditions • Bio: Payam Barnaghi studied computer sciences at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia and obtained his doctorate in this field. Then he was appointed as an assistant professor at this university. After working as an assistant professor at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia for 4 years, he worked as a researcher at the University of Surrey, England for one year, and then completed his post-doctoral course at the same university and started a position as a lecturer at this university. In 2018, he was appointed as a professor of artificial intelligence at the University of Surrey, England, and worked at this university until 2020. Since 2020, he has been working as a professor of applied artificial intelligence in medicine at Imperial College London. Now, he and his colleagues are working on providing ways to personalize care for people with dementia using artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, machine learning and causal networks to create models of symptom experience for cancer care and time-series data processing and pattern analysis. Among his current executive positions, the head of applied artificial intelligence in medicine in the brain science department at Imperial College London, the deputy director and head of the group at the Center for Research and Care Technology at the Dementia Research Institute in England, the editor of IEEE Transactions on Big Data and the vice president of IEEE SIG pointed out in the field of big data intelligent network can be mentioned.

PD. Dr. Behrooz H. Yousefi

• Affiliation: Head of Radiopharmacy, Nuclear Medicine Department, Philipps University, Marburg, Germany • Fields: Development of new radiopharmaceuticals for neurodegenerative diseases (NDD), Glutamate carboxypeptidase II, PSMA • Bio: Behrooz Yousefi studied chemistry at the University of Tabriz, Justus-Liebig University Giessen and the University of Tehran and obtained his PhD in organic chemistry. He worked as a lecturer at the Material and Energy Research Center in Karaj and then was appointed as an assistant professor at the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. With ÖAD scholarship, he developed new biologically active compounds, Pharmacal and metabolites with combinatorial and microwave synthetic methods at the University of Graz and later at the Technical University of Vienna. He then moved to TU Darmstadt to develop pharmaceuticals for amyloid plaque imaging in collaboration with the Schering AG, Berlin. He has been a researcher at TU Munich since 2005. His research focuses on multimodal small animal imaging and pharmaceutical radiochemistry for imaging amyloid plaques. Now, he is the head of radiopharmacy at Nuclear Medicine Department. The efforts conducted in recent years include the invention of new tracers, new 18F-labeling methods, preclinical evaluation of tracers and transnational to clinical studies, and the development of α-synuclein tracers and CMC for PET Tracers as well as Radioligand therapies.
